IT was less chaotic than usual, but for the hundreds of youngsters who played at the Junior State Cup Southern Conference at Wagga's Jubilee Park on the weekend it was a long-awaited chance to play representative sport.

The under-12s girls and under-16 boys flew the flag for home club Wagga Vipers, with both teams making the semi finals of their respective divisions.
Despite a match-levelling try from Kewa Kahuroa, Wagga's under-12s went down 7-2 to Hills Hornets in their semi, while the under-16 boys were edged out 6-5 by Parramatta.
The under-16 girls also made the quarter finals, where their campaign was halted by Wollongong in an 11-6 loss.
Only 3000 players and supporters were allowed on the venue at any one time to comply with COVID health restrictions, far less than the approximately 10,000 for the previous two editions of the event at Jubilee Park.
Teams played consecutive games in sections before leaving the premises.
Wagga under-12s girls coach Virginia Baggio said the players were simply relieved the event was able to go ahead.
"A lot of development teams missed out so we're very grateful we could play, and we're thankful to NSW Touch and Wagga Touch for putting it on," she said.
"The parents have been fantastic getting everyone here on time and leaving on time. We take our hats off to the parents because it's up to them to get that done, it actually worked really well."
Baggio said the back-to-back games was a mental and physical test for the players.
"Fatigue comes into it a bit with back-to-back games, that really played a big role," she said.
"We're trying to train the girls to be mentally and physically tougher, and they've proved that this weekend."
Penrith were the big winners of the weekend after taking out five of the ten titles up for grabs.
Wagga's three year deal to host the event ends this year, but Baggio was hopeful a decision could be reached to extend the partnership.
The major stumbling block is convincing a minority of accommodation houses to stop taking advantage of the huge number of visitors the event attracts to the city.
"It comes down to accommodation, so hopefully the Wagga businesses can get on board with that and hopefully we can get it again for three years," Baggio said.
"It's a big advantage, this is where we train twice a week so they're very familiar with every inch of grass out here."
