The library holds thousands of titles listed in the challenge, suitable for students from kindergarten to high school.
The challenge is not a competition. Instead, it is designed to foster a love of reading for pleasure in students up to year 9, in NSW government, independent, Catholic and home schools.
The library has made selecting appropriate titles for young readers easy, with colour-coded stickers on the spines of many of the books in our junior and youth collections.
K-2 stickers are red - many of the books on this list are picture books beloved favourites of children and parents. The 3-4 list (green) also contains hundreds of picture books, as well as some shorter chapter books.
Readers in Years 5-6 (magenta stickers) can choose from classics such as Enid Blyton's Famous Five series, or contemporary works, including Andy Griffith's Treehouse books.
The 7-9 list (blue stickers) ventures into young adult fiction by writers such as Jackie French and John Flanagan, and introduces some of literature's best-known classics, including Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
To complete the challenge, students need to read between 20 and 30 books before Monday, August 30. For more information, visit waggalibrary.com.au
