After limiting the Bulldogs to 8-169 from their 50 overs, Saints looked to be well on the way to victory at Wagga Cricket Ground after Justin Ward (66) set a great platform for the club.
However when Tim Cameron removed Beck Frostick (27), and then Dan Coates two balls later, it triggered a collapse.
St Michaels lost 5-26 before Nick Fahey (20 not out) was able to steady things to help his side to a three-wicket win.
Frostick admitted the side made it hard for themselves but he was thrilled to come away with a crucial victory after a winless streak which spanned back to December.
"To get back on the winning side is always a nice feeling and something rapidly," Frostick said.
"We should have cruised home a lot easier and earlier but credit to Nick when he came out he showed his heart and played a little gem to get us through.
"We have to be better and can't be leaving it tight."
Wagga RSL had plenty of batsmen who made starts, with six making it to at least 17 but all failed to go on with the job.
Jack Carey top scored with 33.
The Saints bowlers shared the honours before Ward wound back the clock opening the chase.
"I thought the way Wardy played and took the pressure off myself and the other batters was phenomenal," Frostick said.
"It was very pleasing to see him back into form."
