Boat fire on Murray River at Moama leaves one person with minor burns

Fire and Rescue Zone Commander Stewart Alexander told The Daily Advertiser crews arrived to the banks of the river near Winbi on Thursdayat 4.30pm to find the speed boat near the ramp engulfed in fire.

The boat has been destroyed by fire with the remains to be recovered from the scene on Friday morning.

Fire and Rescue teams from Moama and Deniliquin attended to support Rural Fire Services on site.

Quick action had the boat out of the water before pollutants could spread.

"Obviously there was some fuel and oil in the boat and there were concerns for the fast-flowing nature of the river," said Superintendent Stewart Alexander.

"Firefighters managed to minimise the debris from the water, thankfully there was minor loss of fuel and oil resulting in no major pollution."

The blaze was subdued by 6pm on Thursday.

Ambulance and police crews joined firefighters on scene.

One person had to be treated for minor burns to the upper body, and was transferred to hospital by attending paramedics.

It is believed the burns were not too serious.
