Wagga City Council's new Picnic Collective trail has been launched to encourage residents to explore their backyard and to keep visitors coming back for more.
The council's events and visitor economy officer, Stacey Post, said the initiative was aimed at supporting Riverina businesses and producers.
"We want people to get out and about in our city and experience different shops and locations that they might not have been to before," Ms Post said.
"It's really about heroing the local produce that we have here in our backyard."
With summer coming to an end and autumn on its way, it's the perfect weather to head out for a picnic.
Ms Post said visitors or residents just have to purchase the Picnic Collective Pass online and then on the selected date pop into the Visitor Information Centre to collect their souvenir basket and essentials.
Then, download the Scavify App to unlock the Wagga Picnic Collective trail and visit the participating businesses to collect all the picnic treats along Fitzmaurice and Baylis streets.
"At the end of the trail, we suggest you set up your picnic at one of our local parks," Ms Post said.
"You have a full picnic with items such as cheeses, meats, wraps, macrons, and cookies and heaps of yummy treats by the end."
CEO of Knights Deli Deanna McNaughton said they were thrilled that council had developed this initiative and were happy to jump on board.
"After 2020 and with not many events happening, this is a great way to get behind something that gets people out and celebrating food," she said.
"Experiences are what keep people in the region longer. If you have experiences, then they might stay an extra day or so.
"If you don't have events or something that makes them want to linger a little bit longer, then they wander onto the next town, and we lose that possibility of economic growth."
Ms McNaughton said the Picnic Collective is a fantastic way to tempt visitors and residents alike out.
"Everybody loves to eat, so that is always a really good start," she said.
"I think the last 12 months has really made people explore their own backyard a bit more.
"This is a great initiative by Wagga Council to say 'we have some fabulous park and some fabulous food, so why not tour your own backyard'."
Tickets are on sale, with options on alternating Fridays and Saturdays in February through to April.
