On Sunday, boats were already beginning to appear on the lake as the word got out that it was beginning to fill.
Riverina Marine Centre owner Petroulla McDonell was one of the first to get out to the lake, bringing her young children for their first time ever out on the water.
"I grew up coming out here every Sunday ... it's great to see it happening again," she said.
Ms Petroulla said her children were excited to finally get out onto the lake, and there would be a "flow-on effect" for local businesses as people chose the closer, more convenient option of the lake rather than travelling out of town.

Josh Croker and his family brought their water skis down to the lake on Sunday as well, the first time in about three to four years.
His children are too young to remember the last time they were able to go out on the lake, and Mr Croker it was great to finally be able to take them again.
He said the full lake saved them a trip to Talbingo or Blowering Dam.
"Why drive an hour when you can drive 10 minutes?" he said.
