Just before 6.30 on Saturday, NSW Fire and Rescue crews were called to subdue a fire on the highway.
The crews arrived to find one lane of traffic to be blocked by the vehicle, north of the highway north of Holbrook.
It is understood the fire originated in the back refrigerated trailer.
The driver is not believed to have sustained injuries, and managed to detach the trailer from the main truck before the blaze could spread.
Fire and Rescue duty commander Stewart Alexander said the truck was not carrying any dangerous goods and there was no fuel leakage on the road.
One lane of traffic remains closed along the dual carriageway while crews work to clear the debris.
