From emergencies of large and small scale through to training sessions, local businesses are being reminded that the NSW Rural Fire Service facilitates more than just fighting fires, and sometimes, a few extra pairs of hands can go a long way.
Wagga's NSW RFS administration officer Kristin Rava said it was "extremely important" to have local services in place in case of short notice.
"It can be a struggle after hours or even on Sundays to get a hold of certain businesses when we may really need their services, so having their interest registered in the system to call on is vital," she said.
During a major incident, the NSW RFS requires items and services including catering, accommodation, fuel, ice, equipment hire like generators and portaloos, cleaning services, transport services, security services, mechanical services and more.
The Riverina Zone covers the local government areas of Coolamon, Junee, Lockhart and Wagga, with businesses in those areas all encouraged to register.
Ms Rava said they have had a few show interest already, but more are needed.
"It's not just supporting emergencies either, it's day-to-day things like training sessions and general support," she said.
"The more support we have, the more flexibility we have to help the community."
In other news:
"When firefighters and crews are out there working, they don't often get to stop and have a meal, and I've seen that firsthand when my husband does work with them so I know what it's like," she said.
"Also, I think people tend to think about offering support after and emergency has already happened, which is great, but they also need support now."
Mrs Bean said she plans to continue offering her support beyond 2021.
"I will definitely keep it up, you never want an emergency like last year to happen, but if it does, we're happy to help however we can," she said.
