Smeeth made 95, with his innings featuring five fours and five sixes, as the Blues dominated Lake Albert at Robertson Oval.
He was caught on the boundary in the final over looking to bring up his century with another six however the Englishman was pleased to get back in the runs.
"I think there were four balls left and I'm not the sort of bloke who is going to block my way to 100," Smeeth said.
"I was just trying to hit everything for six at that point. (The century) would have been nice but I got a couple of chances along the way so I was just happy to get that many."
Firing from the get go, Smeeth and Joel Robinson (25) put on 34 for the opening wicket.
Lake Albert were able to keep picking up wickets, but it was Smeeth who did the bulk of the damage as the Blues finished at 6-178.
The big chase was far too much for the Bulls with four of their top five batsmen removed for less than 10.
Alex Tucker (36), Sam McLay (21 not out) and Adam Newcombe (20) offered some resistance but Lake Albert could only manage 6-101 to fall 77 runs short.
"They were a little under strength so it was always going to be a tough chase," Smeeth said.
"They lost a couple early so the chase was never really on for them so it was more of a bit of bowling and fielding practice for us."
South Wagga now needs a win against Wagga City on Tuesday night to book their place in Friday's final.
