Just after 6pm on Tuesday, crews from the NSW Rural Fire Service were called to a location on the western side of the highway near Tarcutta.
It's understood the grass fire had taken hold of part of the median strip along the edge of the road.
Crews managed to control the flames quickly upon arrival, and successfully stopped the blaze from spreading.
They remain on site to ensure the fire does not spread at all.
Investigations will begin into how the fire began, but it has come as a timely reminder of the fire danger period as the region continues to swelter through the week.
