Glenn Ross has witnessed his fair share of abuse towards riders on Wagga roads because of bad drivers, but also bad cyclists.
Mr Ross said the ignorance of the road rules from both parties is a serious problem, which needs to be addressed.
"I think a number of car drivers are relatively ignorant of the road rules in relation to cyclists on the road and they assume certain things should be the case like single file riding and passing distances," he said.
"A small minority of drivers are so anti-cyclists being on the road that they abuse you, throw things at you, shout and do stupid things."
According to the NSW Centre for Road Safety website, cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as other road users. However, there are also special road rules that apply only to cyclists.
Among them, cyclists must ride to the left of the road but must avoid parked cars, grates and debris. Riding two abreast is allowed, but no more than 1.5 metres.

Mr Ross said that because cyclists don't need a license to be on the road, they need to take responsibility and learn the rules to ensure they are riding safely.
He added that the rules relating to driving with cyclists on the road should form part of a learners' education.
"As they are learning how to drive on the road it's the perfect time for drivers' education in relation to cycling," he said.
