Teams ready for their shot in Twenty20 blitz

Their clash is the first of a busy period of cricket, which will see 16 games played over the next three weeks.

Both teams are looking to use the shorter format to build momentum into the resumption of the regular cricket season on January 30 with competition for the last two finals placings tight.

Kooringal Colts will take a strong line up into their first clash, with David Bolton and Nathanael Mooney the only two missing from their team.

Captain Keenan Hanigan hopes it will put them in good stead.

"We're all but full strength besides Dave being away for the first two games and Nathanael Mooney will be back after the first two games as well," Hanigan said.

"They will be two big ins for us but it gives two other people an opportunity in these Twenty20s to show us what they've got."

On the other hand St Michaels have a number of players unavailable.

Jack Reynolds, Harry Reynolds, Nick Fahey, Blake Larkin and Daniel Coates will all miss the clash.

However they welcome back some familiar faces including former captain-coach Ryan Forsyth.

Captain Beck Frostick is pleased to have his experience in the side.

"He'll be a big attribute to have around the team for sure," Frostick said.

"We're looking pretty good and we're pretty confident."

Martin Loy, Ian Donohue, Jack Mason and Brett McVittie also come into the side.

While most have plenty of first grade experience, Frostick is looking forward to Mason coming into the squad.

"Jack Mason is a young fella who is really good in the field and that will be handy to have in a T20," he said.

"He bowls, bats and fields well so that's a big attribute to have around the squad."

Frostick believes the changes provide a good opportunity in the different format of the game.

"I think it is a good chance to give bowlers and batters a go in different situations and scenarios for when it comes to the real one-day game," he said.

"It gives the bowlers especially a chance to work on different skills they want to execute while the batters can play their shots and go out with a bit of freedom to get as many runs on the board as possible."

The clash at Harris Park starts at 6.30pm.

Wagga RSL and South Wagga will then play at Robertson Oval on Friday before three matches on Saturday.

Wagga RSL then takes on Wagga City at Robertson Oval, Lake Albert face St Michaels at Rawlings Park while Kooringal Colts host South Wagga at Harris Park.

The clash between Lake Albert and Wagga City on Sunday completes the first period of the competition.

Play resumes on Wednesday, January 13 and matches will be played on seven consecutive days before the top two teams play in the final at Robertson Oval on January 22.

The one-day competition resumes on January 30.
