Awarded a Southern Sports Academy individual scholarship for next year, Krause said winning medals at the 2020 NSW All Schools Athletics Championships was one of her goals.
And didn't she deliver, dominating the under 13s girls sprint and jump events.
Krause won gold in the 100 metres and long jump, silver in the triple jump and bronze in the 200 metres, outstripping even her own expectations.
"No, I wasn't really expecting to go as well as I did," Krause said. "I expected to go well but not that well."
The Temora High School student won the 100m by nearly two-tenths of a second and improved her own best time by around the same margin with a 12.45s sprint.
"A girl in one of the outside lanes jumped really well and I felt like I had to catch up," Krause said. She was in front by halfway down the straight, and kept flying.
It didn't take a personal best to win the long jump. Her 5.21m leap was 26cm better than the rest. But Krause's 10.93m triple jump effort was a 30cm personal improvement and bronze in the 200m came after she knocked almost a second off her time, to finish in 26.15s.
The 13-year-old, who celebrated her birthday just last week, is coached by Temora's Greg Wiencke and is doing her family and community proud.
Krause is now automatically qualified for the 100m, long jump and triple jump at nationals in April next year, and is ranked number one for her age in the country by Athletics Australia.
Also a keen leaguetag and touch football player, Krause trains twice a week with Wiencke, working on her sprinting and jumping technique and her endurance for the bend sprint. She was thrilled to peak at state All Schools, one of the few major athletics events of 2020.
"It makes me feel really proud of myself," she said.
"I like being good at something. It feels good to be good at something."
The NSW All Schools Championships are usually held earlier in the year and the national schools titles in December.
Krause was named in the NSW merit team (for the 100m and her two jumps events) recognising the athletes who would've represented the state had the 2020 Australian All Schools Championships not been cancelled.
Temora High's Damian Wells won two silver medals, in the under 17 boys shot put (13.71m) and hammer throw (54.63m).
Rounding out a fantastic Temora High effort, Sophie Bowley also came home with silver in the under 16 girls long jump (5.33m) and was fourth in triple jump.
They were among strong Riverina efforts, including from Wagga schools:
Gerard Okerenyang won silver in the under 16 boys hammer throw (51.20m) and was fourth in discus (40.94m) and fifth in shot put (14.20m).
Okerenyang, Bowley and Wells were also named in the NSW merit team, with Krause, and Gundagai High's Indiana Cooper (who won silver in the under 15 girls ambulant 200m).
Wagga High's Kippy Langat was third in the under 16 boys triple jump (13.53m).
TRAC's McKenzie O'Riordan was equal third in the under 16 girls high jump (1.60m) and Casey Smith third in the 5000m walk.
Mater Dei Catholic College's Harriet Priest was fourth in the under 16 girls 3000m (11.33.34) and younger sister Charlotte was fourth in the under 14 girls 800m (2.22.61).
Former TRAC student, Eurongilly's Hamish Hart now at school in Sydney), was third in the under 16 boys 3000m.
Narrandera High's Lilly Hewitt took home silver in the under 19 girls hammer throw, discus and shot put.
