Having only begun his circus training at the beginning of this year, Blake only auditioned for the position to "get some experience" before "going for it for real next year".
He was thus shocked to find out he had in fact been chosen as one of the performers. It will now mean that Blake will leave his class at The Rock Central School to commute to Albury every day for the circus school.
Blake's love for the circus began when he was starting gymnastics a few years ago.
In other news:
Having progressed through the levels on a local level, he was looking for a greater challenge when someone suggested he look into learning the circus arts.
"I did the Saturday classes [at the Fruit Fly Circus] for about a month this year, then I went on to night classes which is three times a week," Blake said.
Aerials, and in particular, the tissues and ribbons, is what he loves to do at the moment.
"I first did the hoops hanging from the ceiling then I moved over to the tissues, it's more challenging," Blake said.
"When I saw [the tissues and ribbons hanging from the ceiling] I thought 'I want to do that'."
On his first attempt, Blake climbed to the top of the ribbon, touched the ceiling, then came back down. He recalls it gave his father below a huge fright.
Then he began learning how to free-fall and catch himself up in the ribbons.
"I have bruises all over my legs, everything hurts when I do it," Blake said.
"But I like it. I like tumbling, it's like free-falling."
With his second performance to commence at the end of this year, Blake is looking forward to being able to travel with the circus across Australia and all over the world.
But, he said, at this point in his life, it's not something he's looking to turn into a career. It's still "just a hobby" while he keeps his focus on his actual dream job.
"I do want to become a vet, so that's a bit different from the circus. For now, that's just fun, it's just a hobby," Blake said.
