About 50 women turned out to Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre on Saturday for a triathlon aimed at welcoming new blood to the sport.
Most competitors tackled the open event, that featured a 10 kilometre ride on a stationary spin bike, a 2km run and a 200 metre swim, while a smaller group took part in the novice triathlon.
Most importantly, the women's only event attracted a number of first-timers and Wagga Triathlon Club's Helen Sturman hopes to see many of the faces take part in next year's Riverina Tri Series.
"We hope so. They were very enthusiastic, asking about training sessions and we told them about the Tri Series," Sturman said.
"We'll have a few training sessions before then in January at some point, which we'll make open to everyone."
Sturman believes the women's only event was a success.
"It went really well. We were very pleased with the numbers," she said.
"Everyone really enjoyed it, which was the main thing. The majority of them hadn't done a triathlon before, which is what we were aiming for."
The Riverina Tri Series is due to get underway with the Ganmain Triathlon in February.
