Triathlon NSW is sponsoring the event which will be held on Saturday December 12 at the Oasis pool, Workout gym and Robertson Oval.
"It's for new people, to encourage women to come and do triathlons," Wagga Triathlon Club's Helen Sturman said.
"For the cycling leg, we'll be using stationary spin bikes (in the gym). That eliminates the need to have a bike for this event."
There is no entry fee for the triathlon and no charge to enter Oasis for the event.
The initiative is part of a statewide 'Her Sport, Her Way' grant program to reduce the barriers for women getting involved in sport.
"One of the headings is 'Finish lines not finish times'. We're not worrying about the competition side so much, that's not the emphasis," Sturman said.
"We're hoping (it will be popular). If we can get 30 to 50 women, we'll be very happy.
"We've got 20 bikes but it isn't limited, we'll rotate. It's going to be a staggered event because of COVID-19 anyway. We can only have six in a lane in the pool at any time."
The open event will involve a 10 kilometre ride, a two kilometre run and a 200 metre swim. A novice event will also be held, with the distance halved for each leg.
The triathlon is open to girls and women from the age of 13.
In the lead-up, the club is conducting two training and mentoring for prospective competitors to familiarise themselves with the sport and particularly transitions.
This Saturday, it's a swimming and running session at the Oasis and on December 5, it's cycling and running, held at Workout.
Registration for the triathlon and the mentoring sessions closes on the Thursday night before the events.
