A TRUCK driver has been arrested following a fatal car and truck crash on the Newell Highway this morning.

Shortly after 6am, emergency services were called to the Newell Highway near Mirrool after reports of a collision between a Pantech truck, travelling south, and a Holden Astra, travelling north.
All lanes of the Newell Highway have now been re-opened after it was closed between West Wyalong and Burley Griffin Way for much of the day.
A NSW Police spokesperson said the 33-year-old passenger in the Holden was ejected from the car and died at the scene while the second female passenger was trapped in the vehicle.

The spokesperson said the woman was airlifted to Canberra Hospital with internal injuries. The Holden driver, a 29-year-old woman, was uninjured and taken to West Wyalong Hospital for mandatory testing.
The spokesperson said the truck driver, a 36-year-old man, was uninjured and taken to Temora Hospital for mandatory testing.
He was then arrested and taken to West Wyalong Police Station.
NSW Ambulance duty operations manager inspector Markus Zarins said paramedics and emergency services were "faced with a shocking scene" this morning.
"This is a horrific crash," he said.
"We really need to be aware of our surroundings and look out for each other on the roads.
"Our hearts go out to the families and friends affected by this tragedy."
A crime scene has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A WOMAN has died after a car and truck crashed on the Newell Highway near Mirrool this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 6.05am on Friday following reports of the collision.
Upon arrival, a NSW Police spokesperson said officers found a car and a truck crashed, killing one female passenger in the car and leaving the second passenger trapped.
The spokesperson said the passenger was released and treated at the scene with assistance from paramedics and Fire and Rescue crews. The passenger will be airlifted to hospital.

The driver of the car was not injured.
The spokesperson said the driver of the truck was also uninjured and taken to Temora Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established and an investigation surrounding the circumstances of the crash is underway.
The Newell Highway still remains closed between West Wyalong and Burley Griffin Way.
EARLIER
A SERIOUS crash has closed the Newell Highway near Mirrool this morning with emergency services and rescue helicopter on scene.
An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said paramedics were called to the scene after reports of a "massive crash" between West Wylong and Mirrool about 6am.
They said a specialist medical helicopter has also responded to the accident.
The Newell Highway has since been closed in both directions at the Mid Western Highway at West Wylong and Burley Griffin Way near Mirrool.
A Transport Management Centre spokesperson said traffic is being diverted via Goldfields Way, Mary Gilmore Way and Burley Griffin Way.
They said the diversion will add about 30 minutes travel time.
"Motorists should follow the diversions and allow extra travel time," they said.
