The team of contemporary Australian drawers explore suburban and regional life through the 60s to 90s, contrasting a mix of familiarity and strangeness through a physical house.
Hardenvale - our Home in Absurdia is the product of more than five years of work from artists Todd Fuller, Catherine O'Donnell and Kellie O'Dempsey.
Fuller said the installation was almost ready to open to the people of Wagga as they made the final touches.
"There's going to be a lot of objects from our collective childhoods, so it taps into that universal collective memory that everyone can relate to," he said.
"Anyone walking through the home can have a spark ignited in them, which might be of joy, or maybe discomfort, but it is a common thread of memories felt."
In other news:
The physical set of the home, including floors, walls and roofing, was designed to be flatpacked to transport in a single truck, set up from scratch at each leg of the tour. Along the way, artist Catherine O'Donnell said memories of each location would be collected.
"It will be an archive of regional Australia, like a snowball collecting pieces of each destination to build on across the length of the journey," she said.
For Wagga, a backdrop of the churches stretched out by the river will leave a memory of the city in the walls of the home, alongside a nod to tales of the five o'clock wave.
Accompanying the physical home are projections of work by artist Kellie O'Dempsey, bringing life to the abode.
"It's designed to be inviting, curious and absurd all at once," she said.
"It's not a dolls house, it's not a cubby, but we wanted to mix the familiar with the strange."
The installment will be open to the public from October 31. A launch night will be held on November 7, but tickets must be booked via waggaartgallery.com.au/whats-on/programs-and-events/artstate-exhibition-launch.
