More than 30 millimetres of rainfall has been predicted across Friday and Saturday, putting the starts of both the senior and junior competitions in jeopardy.
Typically the Wagga Cricket season begins following the October long weekend but with no two-day cricket being played this season the start date was pushed back.
Wagga City are supposed to start their title defence against Wagga RSL at McPherson Oval on Saturday.
Kooringal Colts host grand finalists South Wagga at Harris Park.
Colts captain Keenan Hanigan is hopeful of getting on the field to see their season under way after a shorter preparation than last season.
However the forecast is a big concern.
"We obviously can't control the weather," Hanigan said.
"If we get on we get on, you can't control it so we just have to deal with it."
To complete the round St Michaels and Lake Albert will do battle at Robertson Oval.
The match has been moved from Forest Hill with the premier ground becoming available sooner than expected.
There will be more senior action this season with additional teams in both the third grade and fourth grade competitions.
Five matches will be played each week in the two lower grades this season with an additional three teams in fourth grade taking part this season as well as an additional team from St Michaels in third grade.
