The 25-year-old polled 122 votes in the Trevor Barker Award to finish behind fellow recruit Dan Butler (126) and runaway winner Jack Steele (207).
After alternating between defence and up forward in four seasons at Port Adelaide, Howard established himself as a fine defender for the Saints.
He played an influential role in helping them break their finals drought with a thrilling elimation final win over Western Bulldogs, before their premiership quest ended with a 31-point semi final loss to defending champions Richmond on Friday.
The Saints' premier on-baller took out top billing (207 votes) after two successive podium finishes in 2018 and 2019, topping the count to finish 81 votes clear of second-placed Dan Butler.
Butler (126) and fellow recruit Dougal Howard (122) rounded out this year's podium after terrific seasons at their new club.
