A stunning Fred Gardner goal in the fifth minute ensured Leeton United gained the early ascendancy and from there, the visitors never looked back on their way to a remarkable finals victory.

Fred Gardner scored Leeton's opening two goals before brother Henri got in on the fun to help Leeton to a 3-0 half-time lead.

Fred joined Henri on the bench in the early minutes of the second half when he was fouled inside the box. The Gardners might have been off the park but the fun continued for Leeton as Adam Raso and Conor Edenen finished the rout with three more goals.

Henwood Park were the only team to defeat Leeton during the regular season but the tables were turned significantly in the opening week of finals as the Hawks crashed to their first 'real' loss of the year.

Leeton United coach Frank Alampi was delighted with his team's performance as they booked their place in their first Football Wagga senior grand final since 2004.

"I was actually, I was very pleased the way we played. The first goal was crucial but they kept going, the boys kept going, they didn't rest on their laurels, they kept going and kept playing," Alampi said.

There were some spectacular goals among Leeton's six and Alampi was pleased with the way everyone contributed to the win.

"Yeah we did, we scored some really good ones actually. It was just a great team performance," he said.

"We had plenty of boys from the bench come on when we had some injuries, hopefully the guys are alright but now we've earned the two weeks off.

"It's good but the next one's going to be harder. The job's definitely not done."

And that was Alampi's message after the game. While excited along with the rest of Leeton's squad about the win, he was reminding his men that the job is not yet done.

He also refused to rule Henwood Park out on the back of Sunday's whitewash.

"You work hard all year to earn that double chance and those games happen sometimes," he said.

"The boys were great, but these guys have to pick themselves up for next week and I've got to make sure the boys are ready for two weeks and are not thinking about the performance and the scoreline today.

"Hopefully we can do that and work hard on the track."

Henri Gardner did not play the second half due to a tight calf, while Fred came off with an ankle injury.

Alampi is confident both will be right for the decider.
