The 26-year-old has called it quits after the travel commitment became too tough, but will continue to play with the Diesels.
Junee endured a tough year in the shortened Group Nine competition, with a host of early injuries contributing to one win in seven games.
"I'm not coaching next year, it makes it a bit hard living in Wagga and travelling over there all the time," Schubach said.
"It gives the club a bit of a fresh start and a change. I don't really have the time to coach them next year.
"It was a pretty tough year. We had a good side on paper but had a lot of injuries the first couple of games, which made it hard."
"COVID didn't make it easier and the short season wasn't too bad because it gave everyone a hitout and allowed everyone to play footy.
Despite their on-field struggles Shubach said it was important for the club to feature this season.
"There's no regrets, we enjoyed playing footy and we still take some positives out of it," he said.
"I think if the club didn't play this year it would have made it hard to play next year, and we'll build off the back of that."
Schubach believes luring one big-name signing to the club could spark a domino effect of players donning the blue and yellow jersey next year.
"It's maybe a case of one key signing to be captain-coach, it always helps bring other players to the club and makes other people keen.
"It wasn't too bad of a season financially with the shortened season, so hopefully they've got a bit of money to spend."
