"About 11.30pm emergency services were called to Howlong-Balldale Road, Balldale, about 50 kilometres north-west of Albury, following reports a Nissan Navara had left the roadway and crashed into a tree," A NSW Police Force Statement said.
"The 23-year-old driver - and sole occupant in the vehicle - died at the scene.
"Officers from Murray River Police District attended and established a crime scene.
"Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner."
The crash came just before the start of Operation Slow Down with Riverina Police targeting everything from speeding through to mobile phone offences with double demerits over the long weekend.
