James Goncalves said he was sitting in his lounge room on Kirrang Avenue, Glenfield Park, when he heard a "big bang".
"It was just after 1am when I heard it, so I raced over to the garage where it came from and saw the garage door kicked in and a bottle of bourbon smashed in front of the house," he said.
"I took a hammer with me in case they tried to attack me and went to look around to see if I could find who did it, but they were already gone."
While not known if the offender was acting alone or in company, Mr Goncalves said they got away with seven bottles of alcohol and a Google Home device.
But the concerned resident said he feared he wasn't the only home targeted.
"Up where I live there's an alleyway leading to Red Hill Road, so I went to look up there and found a box of frozen party pies, ice creams and a six pack of Great Northerns," he said.
"They might have gotten that from someone else's place."
In other news:
Mr Goncalves said he alerted police at the time, and was told a forensics team would come and search the home for evidence.
"I just hope this acts as a bit of a warning to people in the Glenfield area to keep an eye out and lock up your home," he said.
"Especially those near the walking track, because while they only took small bits and pieces from me, they could get something more expensive next time."
