After winning the 2018 title, the Tigers crashed out against Tumut as minor premiers in last year's preliminary final.
It was their first loss to the Blues in nine years and while they suffered another in this year's minor premiership battle, history wasn't going to repeat for a third time.
Instead Gundagai proved far too good for their arch rivals in the grand final at Equex Centre on Sunday, scoring a 40-18 victory.
They put the writing on the wall when blowing a number of opportunities in their tight 8-6 win over the Blues in the qualifying final.
Coach Adam Perry was thrilled they delivered on the big stage.
"Last game against them we had scoring opportunities and just couldn't get the ball over the line," Perry said.
"We probably should have scored another three or four tries and were just unlucky on the day so I knew if we got in the same sort of position our luck would turn and we would get some points."
Gundagai set up the win with a powerful first half performance.
Jumping out of the blocks, the Tigers capitalised on plenty of errors from their rivals to lead 22-4.
Perry believes winning the battle with the big Tumut forward pack was crucial.
"The first few minutes was pretty tough, it was back and forth, but we got the upper hand there and it was pretty telling," he said.
"We were winning the arm wrestle and the points came off the back of that.
"It also helps that we've got players right across the park that in their own positions are the best players in the competition."
Their slick back line capitalised as Mathew Lyons scored a hat-trick, older brother Jack a double with Charlie Barton and hooker James Luff also crossing in the win.
It sees Perry finish a two-year stint as coach of the club on the ultimate high.
"I'm relieved, happy and really proud of the boys," he said. "I've had a great time, the club is an amazing club and I'm really glad we could finish with a win particularly for the amazing supporters and amazing committee."
