At around 9.30pm on Thursday the driver toppled a traffic light at the intersection of Docker Street and Brookong Avenue, drove across the median strip, smashed into the gate, and came to rest on the front lawn.
A NSW Police spokesman said Riverina Highway Patrol officers had written the woman a fine for using a mobile phone while driving.
"Police have been told the Toyota Landcruiser lost control and hit the traffic control light in the middle of the intersection, before crossing to the incorrect side of the road and crashing into a fence on Docker Street," the spokesman said.
The elderly Docker Street resident, who did not want to be named, said she was home at the time of the crash but did not realise what had happened until police and firemen turned up at her house.
"My doorbell rang here at about a quarter to ten, I answered the door, and then I saw a car on my front lawn. I thought, 'what's going on?'," she said.
"Not one thing did I hear. I'm used to a lot of traffic coming up and down here, I'm used to the noise so I never heard a thing happen."
