And while it is very exciting, many are left wondering "What exactly is cabaret?"
Cabaret is a form of entertainment featuring music, song, and dance distinguished by an intimate environment like a club or small venue. Traditionally, you sit at small tables, drink and/or eat while you watch people perform. Typically the performers sing and/or play piano. They often tell stories about their lives, tell jokes or chat with the audience.
The theatre has introduced cabaret as part of the Re-Ignite program to embrace and celebrate the current limitations to capacity and make your return to the theatre fabulous!
But the theatre is not a small, intimate venue?
Re-Ignite Cabaret will be set entirely on the theatre stage. You will be seated at a table on the stage and the performers perform right alongside you; also on the stage. The lighting will be moody and dim. It will feel glamorous, exclusive and fabulous.
Is this an opportunity for me to dress up?
YES, feel free to dress up fancy if you like and join in the glamour. Cabarets are halfway between a concert and a musical. Performers will be singing, acting and sometimes dancing onstage. You are welcome to chat with your friends and enjoy your food and drink throughout the show.
Is Cabaret the same as Burlesque?
No. Burlesque relies on scandalous humour and elaborate staging. Cabaret can be risqué but is not always this way. For these Re-Ignite Cabaret shows, we'll be keeping our clothes on while having a wonderful time.
Sounds like fun. How do I get involved?
Tickets are available with food and drink packages for the complete experience, or you can purchase a show-only ticket and the bar will be open for sales on the night.
Some shows have already sold out. We think it's time to get dressed up and out of the house! Join us on the stage for cabaret!
