POLICE have charged a man after he was allegedly found in possession of a gun and drugs in a caravan near Wagga.

Officers from the Riverina Police District attended the caravan parked at Kohlhagens Reserve, Yarragundry, about 8am on Tuesday where they spoke with a male occupant.
Further inquires saw officers allegedly locate 17 cannabis plants and a loaded firearm concealed under a camp chair during a search of the caravan.
The items were seized for forensic examination.

The 56-year-old man was taken to Wagga Police Station where he was charged with possess prohibited plant, cultivate prohibited plant, possess loaded firearm public place, possess unregistered firearm, possess shortened firearm, possess ammunition without holding license and not keep firearm safely.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, September 9.
