Eddy Towson, 2, was diagnosed with leukaemia in August this year, and his parents Candice and Mark were told he needed to spend anywhere from six to eight months in Sydney to undergo treatment.
After hearing of the sad news, Candice's friends banded together to start a fundraiser originating in Wagga which would help towards to cost of treatment and living in Sydney.
"Candice messaged us as she was waiting at the airport to head to Sydney and said Eddy was very sick, and I just wanted to be able to do something to help," Wagga friend Jessica Bonetti said.
Ms Bonetti launched a GoFundMe page the next day with six of their friends who have stayed in touch since meeting at high school in Wagga.
Now spread out across the country from Broome to Killara and Mackay to Junee, the girls' hearts remained together for Candice.
"We all have families of our own now, so it really hits home," Ms Bonetti said.
"It's every parent's worst nightmare."
In other news:
In just two weeks, they've managed to raise more that $28,000.
Ms Bonetti said the Towsons were "overwhelmed" by the support.
"The money has helped them so much, and most importantly it allows them to be together in Sydney through such a difficult time," she said.
"But the fact we've been able to raise this much just goes to show the type of people they are - They're so well loved by everyone, so it's a true reflection of how amazing they are."
