Wagga City Council welcomed traffic back onto the bridge as of 6am today, September 2, following on from the initial reopening date earlier this month being pushed back due to wet weather.
The $10.6 million upgrade focused on widening and strengthening of the bridge deck, seeing the load limit lifted to allow for any vehicle to travel across.
In other news:
The upgraded bridge is expected to be a key piece of infrastructure for the Wagga High Productivity Freight Route, improving access to the Bomen Industrial Park and connections to the Olympic Highway.
The council has previously said the upgrade will reduce heavy vehicle traffic in the Wagga CBD area, with the new route potentially shaving off up to 36 minutes for drivers on a round trip.
