After a dour opening 60 minutes, the game sprung to life late with four goals and a send off in the final half hour at Rawlings Park.
Wagga United went 1-0 up through Kein Crevatin before their task was made more difficult when Moses Adesola received a second yellow card and was sent off.
Young got the equaliser in dramatic fashion when awarded a penalty, where Patrick Heslop made no mistake.
United quickly regained the lead through Matthew Crawford, only to again be under the pump as Rhys Lacey goalled from a free kick just outside the box to level the score at 2-2.
The draw keeps Young inside the top four, but makes life tough for the sixth-placed United, who remain two points behind the Lions.
"I'm pretty disappointed. We spoke about it before the game, how we wanted to gain three points in every game," Weir said.
"Our discipline's what cost us today. We went down to 10 men and they are a young team and they smell a bit of blood when you do that.
"I thought our boys dug pretty well. They've got a lot of character...it just seems to be that we're our own worst enemy at times."
Wagga United face Hanwood in Griffith on Sunday in a game that will decide their Pascoe Cup fate.
They then finish with games against Tolland and Tumut.
"We've got three games left and we desperately need the nine points," Weir said.
"I feel that if we can get nine points, we'll make finals."
Young finish the season with games against Henwood Park, Lake Albert and Tolland.
