There has been plenty of points in the new-look Bulls outfit this season but this time their defence came to the party as well.
Captain-coach Nathan Rose was thrilled to take a 32-18 win at Harris Park on Saturday.
"It feels good," Rose said.
"Last week we actually played a bit of footy against Tumut so it has probably taken us a few games, but it was just good to get a win with the boys."
Falling 10 points short of Tumut last week, despite scoring the same amount of tries, has been the side's biggest defeat so far this year.
Things have panned out very differently to what Rose would have imagined when he came into the role this season, especially with a high turnover of players from the pre-season.
However he is confident there are plenty of positives for the club.
"Before COVID hit we were building on something pretty good and I was really looking forward to something special," Rose said.
"It's a credit to the boys who are still here and still enjoying it.
"Winning just makes it extra better."
Despite heading into the clash without Luke McBeath and Cody Hodge, the Bulls found a way to draw away from their rivals in the second half.
The two teams traded tries in the first stanza as the Diesels went into the break leading 14-12 after Daniel Foley crossed just minutes out from the break.
However Kyle McCarthy, who crossed in the first half, sparked the Bulls early in the second half.
Bursting through the middle, McCarthy before Josh Siegwalt got a lovely ball away for Travis Smith to score and put Southcity back in front.
They would stay then as Mitch Bennett crossed following another break from the classy hooker.
Rose then extended Southcity's lead before Josh Cochrane forced his way over with seven minutes to play.
Junee scored a consolation effort through Tim Dore but drop out of the top four with what could be a costly loss with games against Tumut, Gundagai and Young to come.
Rose was thrilled with how the team came together with a number of faces playing very little first grade before this season.
"At the start of the game if we came up with an error they would make us pay for it but it was pleasing in the second half that if something didn't go our way that we were defending our line," he said.
"It was a team effort and I think that is why we got the two points.
"That is pretty pleasing."
The win sees Southcity move off the bottom of the ladder and gives them confidence heading into a clash with Gundagai at Anzac Park on Sunday.
The last time the two teams met there the Bulls qualified for the grand final after an extra-time thriller.
Rose hopes Hodge (shoulder) and McBeath will be available for the clash.
