McRae combined with boss Rod Woodhouse as Menames Needy made it two wins on the trot.
However it was the first for Woodhouse, who has stepped into a caretaker role after trainer-driver Ray White was injured in a fall.
Settling last in the small field of two-year-olds, McRae thought the son of Warrawee Needy appreciated being saved for one final run at his rivals.
"I've always had a bit of an opinion of him and he has very good high speed," McRae said.
"The way the race was run it probably suited.
"I think he's a horse who really thrives on high speed and he was always going to be improved from his trial runs after some time off."
McRae then combined for Trevor White to score with Ab Fab.
Coming off a second at Leeton last time out, the three-year-old filly swooped late after a strong early tempo was set by the leaders.
Picking up the drive with the Junee trainer also having Norms Courage, who finished sixth, in the race, McRae has been pleased with her form coming in.
"I've driven her for the last couple of weeks and I've liked how she has gone," he said. "She ran a good second at Leeton against a good little horse.
"I actually thought she was a pretty good chance today and the way the race was run, with a lot of speed early, it really brought her into the race as she come with one run."
It was her first win since May.
