Suckling injured his hamstring in the opening quarter of Western Bulldogs' 41-point loss to Richmond at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday night.
Suckling came off midway through the first quarter and never returned.
Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge expects Suckling to miss the club's next three to four games at least.
"It's not ideal, but he'll be out for a while id say," Beveridge said after the game.
"We'll get that assessed but you'd imagine he wouldn't play over the course of the next three or four games."
It is unlikely that Suckling will feature in any of the Bulldogs' next three games.
Wednesday night's game was the first of AFL's 'footy frenzy' where 33 games will be played in 20 games, due to COVID-19 and the associated restrictions.
The Bulldogs are due to meet Port Adelaide next Monday night, then Brisbane five days later on Saturday, August 8.
Their next game after that is against Adelaide on Sunday, August 16. The AFL fixture has not been released past that point.
The timing of the injury was a cruel blow for Suckling, who had only worked his way back into the Bulldogs team for the past three weeks and been effective playing as a forward.
The loss is likely to cost the the Bulldogs their place in the top eight.
