Despite playing well into his 40s, the two-time Les McIntyre Medal winner has still been impressing for Goulburn in the Canberra Raiders Cup.
Young coach Nick Hall believes he will be a valuable addition to the side.
Especially to cover the losses of front rowers Aaron Slater and Saul Lealaitafea.
"He'll bring heaps to the side," Hall said.
"Where the Cherrypickers sometimes struggled with their timing and execution last year, I'd say we played desperate instead of urgent most of the time.
"You could see it in their play and I think guys like the Pickers and Doddo will bring urgency but not desperation.
"They have been there and done that. They've got confidence from doing it in the past."
Hall is also hoping Dodson will be another boost to the club's culture.
"Even as a senior player he still brings plenty of energy, some good, smart shape to football and is going to be really good in our middle rotation," he said.
"We've got some good props and whether he starts or comes off the bench I can see those guys forming a good little team."
While Dodson has just been unveiled by the club, it's been a move a long time in the process.
Put on ice due to the coronavirus crisis, Hall is pleased it has all come together.
"I've been speaking to Doddo for a long time," he said.
"With Blake (Hewitt) and the Picker boys coming he was wondering about getting in the car.
"We still had some of our local props we were hopeful of, guys like Aaron Slater and Saul, and we preferenced those who have been at the club for a long time but as they feel through we green-lighted Doddo.
"It was just about to happen before COVID and he put everything on hold to see how we were going and how he was going."
Young have also welcomed back another exciting junior Thomas Jenkins, who originally linked with Penrith.
Joining Nic Hall back with the 'Pickers is another boost to their back line.
"It's scary how fitter and stronger they both look," Hall said. "It's not surprising seeing they left here to go into professional systems and they look really good with a bit more maturity about their bodies.
"COVID sucks for them as their careers were moving forward but the symmetry just seems right that if they can't play there they can play here."
Young finished second last in 2019 but have been big moves in the off-season.
However Hall doesn't want to get too far ahead with the new-look side not having the usual time to come together.
"I think Gundagai still look strong, Tumut still look strong, Brothers are recruiting well and I wouldn't be surprised if 'Roos, Albury and Southcity are shaping up well as well," he said.
"I'm sure sides are going to look strong and going to have a busy month training hard and recruiting hard as it is eight weeks of fury."
