The writing had been on the wall for weeks the Bulldogs would pull the pin due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis.
President Stephen Howse confirmed the club deemed the situation untenable this week.
"I can't see us all getting up for it and everyone has to be up for it," Howse said.
"The vibe I'm getting is no one was up for nine rounds.
"It was unanimous and we explored every avenue of playing but in the end I think we've made the right decision for us.
"We haven't had an income for six months and it is pretty hard to function if you haven't got any money."
However he's confident the Bulldogs will be back next season.

Now the club has more time to build back up as they look to be more competitive in 2021.
"(Financially) we have taken a bit of a hit already this year," Howse said.
"We put a hold on jumpers being manufactured, we were getting signage made up but can't afford to pay for any of that at the moment.
"We'll start doing a bit of fundraising for next year and have six months to build something.
"Cootamundra is only a small place so you can only delve into people's pockets so much."
The Bulldogs brought over four international recruits as they looked to shake free of the wooden spoon this season.
All remain in town but are free to explore other interest.
"They've given as an idea what they want to do and they might look further afield," Howse said.
"They are currently working here and it is up to them with what they do now."

Group Nine clubs will meet on Saturday to discuss the season ahead, with July 18 as the starting date.
Chairman Peter McDermott believes an eight-team competition will go ahead if it is the wishes of the clubs.
All have confirmed to The Daily Advertiser this week they all remain interested in playing.
