Officers from the Riverina Police District reported a number of incidents believed to involve the same pair of offenders in Wagga and Adelong on Saturday, June 6.
Riverina Police District Inspector Adrian Telfer said police were first alerted to a stolen vehicle used in the break and enters.
"The chain of events we saw started on Saturday morning where a motor vehicle was stolen and later used in a break and enter offence at Lake Albert Shopping Village," he said.
"About 50 minutes later, we saw the same vehicle and same two offenders enter a number of businesses in Adelong, and once again, the offenders made a number of attempts to steal cigarettes, but were thankfully unsuccessful."
A total of three businesses were targeted in Adelong.
In other news:
Inspector Telfer said police found the stolen vehicle in North Wagga about 9am on Saturday, but are yet to find the offenders.
"There are quite a number of crime scenes involved in this incident and our forensic police have been working through since Saturday morning, with a number of exhibits located in the vehicle and the businesses hit," he said.
"Part of our strategy is going through any CCTV footage as well as we know the vehicle went all across town over the weekend, so that process is fairly labour-intensive."
Police are once again urging anyone with footage or information that could assist with the investigation to contact Wagga Police Station on 6922 2599, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
