White was thrown from his gig rounding the final corner when driving Run Viv Run in the Wagga Picture Frames Maiden Pace (1740m).
White was taken straight to hospital and was found to have sustained a punctured lung, five fractured ribs and fractures to his collarbone and shoulder.
He was due to have a plate inserted in his left shoulder on Tuesday and is expected to remain in hospital for a few more days.
White, 78, has been driving for over six decades and is the oldest driver in the region.
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the reasons behind the fall.
White did report that Run Viv Run, a four-year-old gelding, escaped any injury in the fall.
White expects to be out of action for a couple of months with his injuries.
