Turvey Park Fire and Rescue crews arrived at the Poulton Street property at 4.20am this morning where station officer Chad Kennis said there was no residents home at the time.
"When we arrived we made entry to the house. There was no threat to the adjacent homes," he said.
Mr Kennis said one room was destroyed in the blaze while the rest of the house suffered smoke damage.
He said crews had extinguished the fire within an hour and a half before handing over the incident to police to investigate.
"It was suspicious in nature so we handed it over to the police who established a crime scene," he said.
