Children from Year 5, guided by their teachers Robyn Richards and Helen Whatmuff, planted the donated seedlings around the school, ahead of National Tree Day later in the year.
Staff said the students threw themselves enthusiastically into the task, which is in line with the school's philosophy of sustainability. The school also holds a popular Sustainable Living Festival.
National Tree Day started in 1996 and has grown into one of Australia's largest community tree-planting and nature care events.
Organisers at Planet Ark have also branched out to create a special day for schools.
This year, Schools Tree Day is on Friday, July 31, and National Tree Day is on Sunday, August 2, so the students at Lutheran School, who are getting in a little early, are hoping their seedlings will be well established by then.
According to Planet Ark, more than 26 million trees have been planted by at least five million people, and this number continues to grow with the help of our dedicated volunteers around the country.
Each year, more than 3000 pre-schools, kindergartens, primary and high schools across Australia participate in variety of Schools Tree Day activities.
There is still plenty of time for community groups and schools to sign up to become involved in National Tree Day events for 2020.
