Kahlefeldt drove his first winner on the seven-year-old just over three years ago and his win in the B consolation of the Regional Championships at Riverina Paceway on Friday was another highlight.
"We think he's a horse who is getting with age," Kahlefeldt said.
"His form is really consistent, he's a beautiful horse to drive and I just love the horse.
"He's the horse I drove my first winner on a few years ago so he holds a special place for me and it's good to get another win on him."
Hilly won leading into the series before fourth and third in his heats but a gear malfunction could have seen Hilly come unstuck.
His one-legged spreader came away and was left hanging dangerous near his front legs.
However it might have been the difference as he took all the shortcuts to down Rocky Branach by 2.2 metres.
"I thought a lap out I saw something hanging down and heard him hitting his knee," Kahlefeldt said.
"It was one of those things where I wasn't worried he would break in his gear or anything but there was no way I could have come really wide on him.
"Things worked out really well, gaps opened up for him and we could come down the track instead of up the track."
Kahlefeldt and father Paul also finished third with The Ideal Dancer in the A consolation.
After good performances throughout the series, with two seconds, they are looking forward to getting back to racing over a shorter distance.
"He ran another good race but we are pretty certain the 2200 is not his distance," Kahlefeldt said.
"He's put in three good runs through the heats and consolation but will go for a little freshen up now and hopefully we can get him into some mile races."
