Breust expects to be able to return to work at Hawthorn next week, putting to an end a lockout from the club that has lasted more than seven weeks.
The AFL is expected to announce this week the return of the season in June, and also a return to training from next week.
Breust is thrilled to finally see some light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel.
"Mate, I can't wait," Breust said.
"It's certainly been a pretty challenging period but I'm looking forward to it now that we can get back to the club and start training again. Even if its without crowds and all those sort of things, it's still going to be good just to get back playing footy."
The 29-year-old, a three-time premiership player at the Hawks, used the suspension of the AFL season as a chance to return home to the family farm at Temora.
Breust said the time he spent at home helped ensure he was in the right head space for his return to Melbourne, where an AFL season like no other before awaits.
"I've been fortunate I could go between the farm and Victoria," he said.
"Being able to get up to the farm and relax a little bit and keep busy as well, there's always something going on on the farm, it's business as usual over there and being able to do that and spend some time with Mum and Dad, and help out, was awesome for me.
"I feel like my routine, when I'm back in Melbourne, is pretty strong so you can get up and do your running and weights and things like that, but at the same time you still need that time to be able to get away and mentally refresh as well."
Breust said maintaining training workloads and motivation levels was difficult early in the shutdown due to the uncertainty around the length of the season suspension.
"Especially early on, those first couple of weeks when we just didn't know how long it was," he said.
"The last three or four weeks has been a fair bit easier because you can start to see the light, we can see that we are not that far away from playing."
