Red, who hasn't finished outside the top two in his first three runs, lines up at Riverina Paceway on Monday.
While the first heat of the series is on Friday, Walker is looking to target next week's heats instead.
"The winners of the heats are exempt from the final round of heats .... and it is definitely going to be easier in the second set," Walker said.
"I thought I'd have a crack at qualifying in the second round and if I only qualify for the consolation it wouldn't be so bad as the horse has only had three starts and it is pretty hard racing those old, seasoned horses but when it is on your doorstep you have to have a crack."
Red has won two of his three starts with some bold showings.
However he has to contend with the inside of the second row draw in the Leeton Harness Racing Club Pace (1740m).
Walker elected to keep Darryl Perrot on board.
"He's a good horse and if he can keep him out of trouble from the back row he should be right," he said.
Perrot has also been given the drives on Roll A Dream and Shanks For Coming with Walker's only drive on the night on Our Mach Jack.
The former MIA Breeders Plate winner hasn't raced in 15 months following a long spell.
Walker hopes the break has helped him rediscover his best form.
"He wasn't going good so I put him in the paddock and thought I'd give him a couple of months and all but 12 went by," he said.
"There was no tendon or nothing we could find but he just wasn't going like I knew he could, and he might not go that good again either but we will see what happens."
