Officers from the Riverina Police District attended a unit on Bruce Street, Tolland, about 10.30am after reports of a domestic dispute.
"Police have been told a man forced entry to a unit and assaulted two women, before throwing a 40-year-old man onto a concrete path as he tried to intervene," a spokesperson said.
NSW Ambulance media confirmed the man suffered head injuries as a result and was taken to Wagga Base Hospital in a critical condition.

A spokesperson from Murrumbidgee Local Health District said a man in his 40s was airlifted from Wagga Base Hospital to Canberra in a critical condition about 2.30 this afternoon.
A crime scene has been established and an investigation is underway.
Police say a 26-year-old man was taken to Wagga Police Station and is currently assisting police with inquiries, but no charges have been laid as investigations continue.
