Despite COVID-19 restrictions impacting worksites around the state, the preliminary works have begun on the Estella Primary School.
Currently, teams are preparing site-establishment plans ahead of construction.
The school will be built beside Peter Hastie Oval near the Wagga campus of Charles Sturt University.
Independent Member for Wagga, Dr Joe McGirr said that the construction will pass its final hurdle in the coming weeks, when the State Significant Development Application is finalised.
After which time, construction will begin on the $38 million structure.
"It's encouraging to see this project progress further, despite the current COVID-19 challenges our communities are facing," Dr McGirr said.
The primary school construction was given the go-ahead in 2018 in reaction to the booming growth of Wagga's northern suburbs.
It is still expected to be completed and operational by 2021.
