Group Nine clubs were given the all clear to start training in July with the plan to start the competition on July 18.
Even before the call from NSW Rugby League was made on Wednesday, Hurst had been in contact with individuals to see how they were handling the impact of the coronavirus.
"I rang around to everyone just to touch base to see how they were going, how they were fairing with work and to see how they were going with everything," Hurst said. "I said to be prepared that we could have a shortened season and play out to October.
"If we need to pull the trigger we decided we would train for three weeks, three nights a week to do what we can do to make it happen."

"We understand this will have a few implications going forward and have to make sure we have a good structure in the best purpose and has the player's welfare in forefront of mind," he said.
He believes the club is in a good place financially but the full impact on sponsorship remains unknown.
