Ian Charles Gibson faced Wagga Bail Court on Saturday charged with a number of firearm offences following an alleged incident at Moulamein the previous day.
According to police, officers from the Murray River Police District were called to a boat ramp in the small town, about 100km north-west of Deniliquin, about 3.30pm on Good Friday after reports of shots being fired.
Police said two men, aged 41 and 39, were on a boat in Billabong Creek and heard another man yelling, before shots were allegedly fired in their direction.
The two men immediately left the area and returned to the boat ramp.
Mr Gibson was arrested by officers at the boat ramp a short time later and taken to Deniliquin police station.
A search warrant was executed at a Moulamein property, where police seized firearms and ammunition.
Mr Gibson was was charged with firing a firearm in a manner likely to injure persons, four counts of not keeping a firearm safely (not prohibited firearm), holder of licence not having approved storage and possessing an unregistered firearm.
He was refused police bail and appeared before Registrar Cindy Brereton in court on Saturday.
Registrar Brereton granted Mr Gibson bail with a number of conditions, including that he live at a certain address and that he not contact the two men or any other witnesses.
He is also banned from having a firearm in his possession or at his home.
The matter was adjourned to Deniliquin Local Court, where it will be mentioned again on May 5.
