The Brain Smith-trained dog has won six of his seven starts, including his last two, with his only blemish a second.
Smith was impressed by how he finished off his last win, powering away to win by more than five lengths in 18 seconds.
He hopes it shows he's back to his best.
"It was a good run last week, he run straight through to the line," Smith said.
"I was pleased with that.
"He's done everything right since then and has had a bit of an attitude change himself.
"He's sparked up a bit and doing everything he should be doing."
His only loss was at the 400 metres and while he will again go over the 320 metres at Wagga on Sunday, Smith doesn't believe the extra distance will be a concern.
One problem he faces in the regionalisation of racing due to the coronavirus threat.
With that in mind Tanami Express could be headed south to Victoria.
Smith expects to know more after Sunday's race.
"The way things are we are not able to go anywhere and it is time for a change of scenery for him," he said.
Smith is also hoping to breakthrough with Sapphire Ruby in the Adrian Podmore Appreciation Stakes (320m).
The bitch has been runner up in her two starts for Smith since moving from Queensland and continues to impress the The Rock trainer.
"Her run the other day she did everything right but win," Smith said.
