Alan and Margaret Bredin, 72 and 71 respectively, will mark the occasion today.
The couple, who both grew up in Cootamundra, got to know each other when Mrs Bredin needed a partner for her debutante ball.
"Things snowballed from there," she said.
They were married on March 14, 1970.
The couple have not just been partners in life, spending over 30 years working side by side at Riverina newsagencies, firstly in Adelong and then later in the Sturt Mall for 22 years.
They said their success in both their business and marriage was a testament to the strength of their relationship.
"It shows our bond and love for each other," Mr Bredin said.
Through the years the pair have enjoyed much more than their work life with their three children; Tania, Scott and the late Leanne, with the family heavily involved in their local community through Apex and the scouts.
"We like to have people around us," Mrs Bredin said.
The couple's wedding party was a big one back in 1970, with Mrs Bredin's five sisters taking part along with two of Mr Bredin's closest friends.
When they celebrate today, every member of that wedding party will be there.
Mr Bredin said the biggest key to a happy family was to spend time together, setting aside days to be in each other's company.
"That is what builds a family up," he said.
