The rain washed out some of the parking options, however it did not put a damper on 12-year-old Katie Forbes who came to cheer her lungs out for her friends in the Giants team.
Miss Forbes inherited her passion for AFL from her family, who have taken her along to football events for as long as she can remember.
"Dad really loves AFL," Miss Forbes said.
"It's fun and gets you up and out there."
Canberra AFL player Danielle Caeser said she was buoyed to see the growing crowds at AFLW teams, which only seem to get bigger each year.
Miss Caeser said many young girls were inspired by the AFLW players, which is what prompted them to join their local clubs.
"[The female football scene] has definitely improved, especially with all the AFLW teams coming through. It's been really awesome," Miss Caesar said.
"Not only is the competitiveness there, everyone's getting behind it now."
